Boise Little Theater (BLT) is one of the oldest all-volunteer community theaters in the United States, established in 1948. It has been a vital part of Boise’s performing arts scene for over seven decades, founded by passionate theater enthusiasts who wanted to bring quality live performances to the community. In its early years, BLT staged productions in borrowed spaces, including school auditoriums and public venues. As its popularity grew, the need for a permanent home became clear. In 1957, the theater moved into its current location at 100 E Fort Street, near the base of the Boise foothills. Built with strong community support, the facility allowed for a more consistent season of productions.

Throughout its history, BLT has faced challenges, including economic downturns and even occasional fires, but the dedication of its volunteers and local supporters has kept it thriving. The theater continues to showcase a variety of productions each season, ranging from classic dramas and musicals to contemporary works. It has played a significant role in fostering local talent, providing a space where aspiring actors, directors, and stagehands can develop their skills. Many Boise residents have gotten their start in theater through BLT’s productions, summer programs, and youth workshops.

Today, Boise Little Theater remains a cornerstone of the city’s cultural landscape, producing five to six mainstage shows per season. It continues to uphold its mission of bringing high-quality, accessible theater to the community while preserving the spirit of volunteer-driven performance arts.
